RECORDING YOUR SHOW

The Tascam SS-R1 is the recording device in the studio. It records an MP3 file onto compact flash cards.

COMPACT FLASH CARDS:
Although KLOI provides several flash cards for in-studio use (located on top of the recorder), it is recommended that each DJ/HOST purchase their own compact flash card. They are fairly cheap. A 2 GB card would hold 18 hours of recording and should be all you need. Don’t get anything larger than 8 GB – the recorder can’t accommodate it.

• The recorder records essentially what is being broadcast. All channels on the mixer board that have the AUD button illuminated can be part of the mix.
• Turn on the recorder using the on/off button on the front face of the recorder.
• Insert a blank flash card (picture up, pin holes towards the unit).
• Be sure your flash card has sufficient room. If in doubt, follow the “Format Flash Card” procedure 12.D below.
• The screen will say “Media Reading”, then it will display track and time info. It’s now ready for recording.
• Push the RECORD button to enable it, then push PLAY to begin recording. The small light will flash.
• Push STOP when finished. It will take a moment to record the last bit, then the small light will come on solid.
• When the small light is solid, eject your card and turn the unit off when finished.

• TO RECORD A SHOW WITHOUT GOING OVER THE AIR WHILE THE MEGASEG CHANNEL IS BEING BROADCAST
  • The PGM buttons on the mixer board enable a channel to be broadcast.
  • The AUD buttons on the mixer board enable a channel to be recorded.
  • Turn OFF the PGM buttons for the channels you want to be part of the recording so they won’t be broadcast (example, the MICS or CD players)
  • Turn OFF the AUD button for MegaSeg so it won’t be part of your recording.
  • To hear what you’re recording over the headphones, push the AUD button for the headphones, located along the right side of the mixer board.
  • Return everything to default when finished.

• HOW TO LISTEN TO A FILE FROM YOUR PROGRAM FOLDER WITHOUT THE SOUND BEING BROADCAST
  • On the mixer board, push the CUE button for the Itunes/Quicktime channel. This enables the sound to be heard on the small speaker on the mixer board.
  • Double click on your file. Quick Tunes will initiate and begin to play.
  • Adjust the volume with the slider for the Itunes/Quicktime channel.
  • When finished, return the board to the default settings.

• HOW TO PLAY A FILE FROM YOUR PROGRAM FOLDER OVER THE AIR
  • Find your file and double click on it.
  • On the mixer board, push the ON button for the Itunes/Quicktime channel. And adjust the slider.

• FORMATTING A COMPACT FLASH CARD ON THE RECORDER
  • Turn on the recorder and insert your flash card.
  • Rotate the "multi-jog" knob to the right until "utility" is highlighted in the display.
  • Push the "multi-jog" knob. "Memory Format" should now be highlighted.
  • Push the "multi-jog" knob again. A small window saying "format, execute" will appear.
  • Push the "multi-jog" know again. It will begin formatting your card.
  • When finished, the formatting progress window will disappear.
  • Push the "stop" button to return the display to the default.
